Steady Becoming
» 45
for those who don’t know why to live.
the goal is simple, but not shallow.
to become better
in every expression of who you are.
a better human. a better child. a better sibling. a better friend. a better believer. a better man.
not occasionally. not selectively.
but wholly.
because the truth is, you are not there yet.
and you will always know you are not there yet for as long as a better version of you still exists. that awareness is not discouraging. it is direction. it means the work is still ongoing.
you are not the standard. you never will be.
if you were, growth would be limited to your own understanding,
your own comfort, your own flaws.
but you are a work in progress,
and so your life cannot be measured by you.
the standard is Jesus.
not just in what he said, but in how he lived.
how he loved. how he responded.
how he carried responsibility. how he walked in truth.
so living becomes alignment.
a quiet, daily returning to the question
“what would Jesus do here?”
in this decision. in this pressure.
in this moment of weakness.
in this opportunity to love, to lead, to step back, or to step forward.
not because you are strong, but because you are aware that you are not.
you are a frail human—learning, failing, growing, and trying again.
and that is why the question matters.
it keeps you pointed in the right direction even when you fall short.
so no, life is not about arriving at a final, perfect version of yourself.
it is about becoming.
about refining.
about aligning.
about choosing, again and again, to move closer to the standard you did not set, but have chosen to follow.
you are not a finished product.
you are a project. a work in progress.
and this is the work of a lifetime.

Reminded that Jesus is the standard and not me 🫶
